Comments:
The proportion of neoplastic epithelium and extracellular mucin varies from case to case. Occasional cases consist entirely or almost entirely of mucin and require thorough sampling to detect carcinoma cells. In this case, small clusters of tumor cells were seen in only a couple of blocks out of 15 that were submitted.
