Meckel Diverticulum : Gangrene

Case History: This specimen is from 30 y/o female who presented with acute abdomen. Exploratory laparotomy revealed a Meckel diverticulum that had undergone axial rotation leading to gangrene. The specimen shows a 13 cm long resected segment of ileum with a 2.5 cm diameter Meckel diverticulum with dark brown-black discoloration due to gangrenous necrosis. Case courtesy of: Dr. Sanjay D.
