Comments:
Pathogenesis of Angiolipoma: Most angiolipomas have a normal karyotype, unlike most lipomas which show rearrangements involving 12q, 6p, and 13q. About 80% of angiolipomas show mutations in PRKD2 gene (protein kinase D2) which plays an important role in angiogenesis. Overexpression of PRKD2 is considered to have a pathogenetic role. The current thinking is that angiolipomas are hemangiomas containing fat rather than true mixed tumors.
