Intramuscular Myxoma : Gross Pathology

Gross Pathology: Most intramuscular myxomas are large, well-circumscribed tumors, although some may infiltrate into the surrounding muscles. The size ranges from 5 to 15 cm. The appearance on cut surface depends upon the relative amount of myxoid material vs collagen. A typical case has pink-tan, gelatinous surface, often with small cystic areas filled with mucoid fluid. Delicate fibrous septa may also be seen. Some cases have a more solid, fibrous-appearing cut surface. The location of this tumor was thigh muscles in a middle-aged woman.
