Comments:
Herpes virus infection of the cervix usually causes a necrotic ulcer which is surrounded by granulation tissue and an inflammatory infiltrate. The infiltrate contains abundant lymphocytes, histiocytes and neutrophils. The image shows characteristic multinucleated cells with ground glass nuclei in a conventional pap smear.
