Coccidioides : Microbiology

Microbiology: Coccidiodes can grow on Saboraud Dextrose Agar in 2-3 weeks' time. The colonies are described as moist, glabrous (smooth) and grayish to floccose (like fine hair) and white. It is a biosafety level 3 organism and the laboratory personnel are at high risk of inhalation exposure. The specimens must be handled with great care and only under biosafety hoods.
