Comments:
Hashimoto Thyroiditis & Thyroid MALT Lymphomas: Hashimoto thyroiditis is associated with a 40 to 80-fold greater risk of developing thyroid lymphomas as compared to the general population. The molecular pathways that lead from benign lymphocytic infiltrate of Hashimoto to full-blown lymphoma are not fully understood; however, translocations involving FOXP1 gene are found with very high frequency in thyroid MALT lymphomas.

This image shows MALT lymphoma (top half) arising in Hashimoto thyroiditis (lower half). At the interface between the two areas, there are numerous glands with dilated lumens containing clusters of neoplastic lymphocytes (lymphoepithelial lesions).
