Microscopic Features: Cardiac myxomas often show recent intratumoral hemorrhage. Near the hemorrhagic foci, there may be deposition of iron and calcium around degenerated elastin and collagen fibers resulting in formation of purple-brown structures called Gamna-Gandy bodies. They are seen in about 10% of cases.
