Treatment & Prognosis: Most cases of inclusion body fibromatosis regress spontaneously and the overall prognosis is excellent. Given that there is no known risk of aggressive behavior or malignant transformation, a wait and watch approach is appropriate. If resected, there is a high risk of recurrence (50% of cases) which manifests within a few weeks to months after surgery. Some patients develop joint deformities or contractures which may require corrective surgery.

The image shows numerous characteristic eosinophilic intracytoplasmic inclusions that resemble red blood cells. Note the variability in size - an important distinguishing feature from red blood cells.
