Dedifferentiated Liposarcoma : Microscopic Features

Microscopic Features: The diagnostic feature of dedifferentiated liposarcomas (DLPS) is the presence of a non-lipomatous sarcoma of variable grade (usually high-grade) adjacent to an atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma (ALT/WDL). The two components are sharply demarcated from each other but there may be gradual transition from ALT/WDL to the DLPS in some cases. Less commonly, the two components are intimately admixed with each other. Some DLPS are composed entirely of high-grade sarcoma. Focal lipoblastic differentiation may be present within the dedifferentiated areas.
