Atypical Lipomatous Tumor/Well-Diff Liposarcoma : Treatment

Treatment: Atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma (ALT/WDL) is a locally aggressive tumor that does not metastasize. Nevertheless, depending upon the location, it can cause significant morbidity and even mortality.

Tumors located in the deep soft tissues of the extremities are cured by limited excision. The recurrence rate is about 50%; however, they do not cause tumor-related death. Retroperitoneal ALT/WDL are difficult to resect completely and have a recurrence rate approaching 100% and a mortality rate of 30-35%.
