Atypical Lipomatous Tumor/Well-Diff Liposarcoma : Mixed Pattern

Atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma (ALT/WDL): Most ALT/WDL show an admixture of lipoma-like and sclerosing areas. The distinction between these two is often arbitrary and is not required as there is no clinical significance to the various subtypes.

This image is from a 15 cm firm, mid-thigh mass of several years' duration removed from a 55 y/o female. The specimen had a variegated appearance with firm grayish-pink sclerotic areas merging with yellow adipose tissue.
