Comments:
Prognosis of ICPN (continued from the previous image): In the absence of invasion, ICPNs have a good prognosis after cholecystectomy. The 5-yr survival rate for ICPN without invasion and with invasion is 78% and 60% respectively. Invasive carcinomas that arise from ICPNs also have a far better outcome as compared to gallbladder carcinomas developing from flat dysplasia (3-yr survival rate of 60% vs 30%). Long-term follow-up is recommended following resection of ICPNs as patients may develop carcinomas elsewhere in the biliary tract due to field effect.
