Cholesterol Polyps: Cholesterol polyps have a broccoli-like shape on a thin stalk and contain numerous lipid-laden macrophages in the lamina propria. They are not caused by any injury to gallbladder; therefore, they are devoid of inflammation unless there are associated gallstones. Note that about 15% of cases lack lipid-laden macrophages and may just show stromal edema. Low-grade dysplasia of no clinical significance may be seen in about 3% of cases.
