Gallbladder : Papillary Hyperplasia

Primary Papillary Hyperplasia of Gallbladder: It is an uncommon pseudoneoplastic lesion that is usually seen in young female patients. The mucosa is thickened and consists of tall, closely spaced, villous-like folds. It does not form a mass lesion or a nodule. The lining epithelium is biliary type with no cytologic atypia. Its clinical significance is not fully understood.

This image of gallbladder mucosa is from a young female who underwent cholecystectomy for suspected gallstones. No gallstones were found. The gallbladder wall was thickened, measuring up to 5 mm in places. The red velvety mucosa had occasional yellow flecks characteristic of cholesterolosis. No mass lesions were found.
