Morphologic variants of mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) include – oncocytic mucoepidermoid carcinoma, sclerosing mucoepidermoid carcinoma, sclerosing mucoepidermoid carcinoma with eosinophilia, and de-differentiated mucoepidermoid carcinoma.

The image shows oncocytic variant of MEC. The tumor is composed of sheets of polygonal cells with eosinophilic granular cytoplasm. For a case to be labeled as oncocytic MEC, areas of conventional MEC with mucinous cells (such as the focus shown in this image) must be identified.
