Macroscopic Features: Choledochal cysts vary greatly in size and can hold from a few milliliters to > 5 liters of bile. In the initial stages, they are thin-walled (as seen in this image). Over time, especially in adult patients, the cyst wall thickens due to inflammation, fibrosis and even calcification. There may be surface adhesions to adjacent structures.
