Macroscopic Features: Choledochal cysts vary greatly in size and can hold from a few milliliters to > 5 liters of bile. In the initial stages, they are thin-walled. Over time, especially in adult patients, the cyst wall thickens due to inflammation, fibrosis and even calcification. There may be surface adhesions to adjacent structures.
