Clinical Features: Pleomorphic liposarcoma occurs in adults with a peak incidence in the 7th decade of life. It presents as a rapidly growing painless mass located in the deep soft tissues of the extremities (two-thirds of cases; lower > upper extremity) or retroperitoneum. About 25% of cases are located more superficially in the subcutaneous fat. Less common sites include the trunk, mediastinum, heart, pleura, breast, scalp, colon, and orbit.

This image shows pleomorphic multivacuolated lipoblasts as well as multinucleated tumor giant cells in a background of spindle cell proliferation.
