Myxoid Liposarcoma : Treatment

Treatment: Historically, the standard therapy for myxoid liposarcoma (LPS) of the extremities was amputation in order to achieve local control. However, with the advancements in imaging, adjuvant therapy, and improved surgical techniques, it is now routinely treated by wide local excision. It is extremely sensitive to radiation therapy as well as anthracyclines.

This image of a myxoid LPS shows bland spindle, fusiform, and stellate cells in a myxoid stroma with a delicate plexiform capillary network. Scattered univacuolar lipoblasts are also present.
