Comments:
Myxoid Liposarcoma, High-Grade (Round Cell LPS): Myxoid LPS may contain high-grade, more cellular areas (previously referred to as round cell liposarcoma). The round cell areas may be present as discrete nodules (next image) within a myxoid background or there may be a gradual transition from myxoid to round cell pattern (seen more often). This image shows an admixture of myxoid and round cell areas (clusters of basophilic cells).

The presence of round cell component worsens the prognosis. Different ways of quantifying round cell component have been proposed, including a two-tiered system (< 5% and > 5%) and a three-tiered system (0-5%, 6-25%, & > 25%). For accurate estimation, the tumor should be thoroughly sampled.
