Comments:
Microscopic Features: Myxoid liposarcoma (LPS) is composed of sheets of uniform, non-adipocytic, stellate, spindle or round cells in abundant myxoid matrix containing acid mucopolysaccharides. There is no cytology atypia and mitotic activity is not increased. Small univacuolar (signet ring) or bivacuolar lipoblasts in various stages of differentiation are present, usually at the tumor periphery. Lipoblasts may be absent altogether.

There is a plexiform vascular network of delicate thin-walled capillaries. This feature is useful in distinguishing myxoid LPS from myxoma and other tumors with myxoid matrix. Note the presence of interstitial hemorrhage..
