Chronic Calculous Cholecystitis: The gallbladder wall is thickened to > 1 cm. The mucosa is acutely inflamed. When acute inflammatory infiltrate is present within the epithelium in a background of chronic cholecystitis, the preferred term is chronic active cholecystitis.
