Chronic Calculous Cholecystitis: The gallbladder mucosa may be nearly normal in appearance with preservation of mucosal folds or it may become flattened due to increased intraluminal pressure when a stone produces outflow obstruction. Impacted stones may cause ulcers and erosions and destroy the mucosa. In this image, the mucosa is hemorrhagic and necrotic. There is transmural necrosis of the wall with imminent perforation (on the right). The wall is focally thickened to nearly 2 cm.
