Microscopic Features: The undifferentiated cellular areas in mesenchymal chondrosarcoma are composed of round, oval or spindle-shaped cells with small hyperchromatic nuclei and scant cytoplasm. They are arranged in nests, solid sheets, alveolar pattern, or a pericytic pattern around blood vessels. Prominent staghorn-shaped blood vessels (hemangiopericytoma pattern) are commonly present. A few such vessels can be seen on the upper right of the image.
