Image Description
Clinical Features (continued from the previous image): With angiolipomas, pain/tenderness is more intense during the initial growth phase and reduces or disappears when the tumor reaches its final size, usually around 2 cm. The intensity of pain is not influenced by the degree of vascularity or by exposure to heat or cold.
Rare sites for angiolipomas include face, scalp, hands and feet. Increased use of mammography has led to the discovery of many angiolipomas in and around the breast. Other rare locations where similar lesions have been documented include oral cavity, intra-articular, extradural, and bronchial. Lesions with adipose and vascular tissue arising in locations such as intramuscular, CNS, and parenchymal organs are variants of hemangiomas and not true angiolipomas.
This image of an angiolipoma shows a more prominent vascular component at the periphery of the tumor (top).
