Image Description
Treatment of Adult Granulosa Cell Tumor (GCT) of Ovary: In peri- and postmenopausal women, the treatment consists of bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and total hysterectomy with complete staging.
In younger women, when the tumor is confined to one ovary, the treatment consists of unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy to preserve the child-bearing function. Patients with advanced disease at least receive tumor-debulking surgery and combination chemotherapy. Serum beta-inhibin levels are used to monitor for tumor recurrence. Recurrences are treated by surgery, radiation, hormonal therapy, and combination chemotherapy but are usually fatal.
The image shows classic microfollicular pattern of adult GCT with Call-Exner bodies and characteristic grooved nuclei.
