Clear cell carcinoma is considered to be an adverse histologic type with a worse prognosis than other malignant epithelial ovarian tumors at comparable stages. It shows poor response to platinum-based chemotherapy. The 5-yr survival rates are as follows: Stage I, 69%; Stage II, 55%; Stage III, 14%; and Stage IV, 4%.
