Leiomyoma of Uterus : Intramural

Comments:
This hysterectomy specimen from a 42 y/o female shows a large intramural leiomyoma. The tumor is centered primarily within the myometrium which is the most common location for leiomyomas. The cut surface is pink-tan with a whorled appearance.

The patient presented with back pain and menorrhagia. Ultrasound examination showed a mass within the uterine wall.
