Intestinal-type gastric adenocarcinoma (right) in a background of chronic atrophic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia (left). Intestinal metaplasia is a precursor lesion to intestinal-type gastric carcinoma, and since metaplasia is often seen in autoimmune gastritis, these patients are at increased risk for malignancy (adenocarcinoma in addition to neuroendocrine tumors).
