Comments:
In a typical case of condyloma acuminata, cytologic atypia is minimal and mitotic figures are confined to the basal region. However, lesions removed after podophyllotoxin (shown here) or laser treatment can have marked cytologic atypia. There is epidermal pallor, keratinocyte necrosis and increased mitotic activity. The changes begin to fade after 72 hrs of discontinuing therapy and disappear completely in one week. In the absence of treatment history, the changes can mistaken for malignancy.
