Comments:
Mucinous differentiation in the prostate ranges from mucinous metaplasia on the benign end of the spectrum all the way to mucinous (colloid) adenocarcinoma. The image shows extensive mucinous metaplasia in nodule of benign prostatic hyperplasia (right half). The benign glandular epithelium is replaced by mucin-secreting cells. The involved glands appear lighter pink. Mucinous metaplasia is an incidental finding and has no malignant potential.
