Comments:
Microscopic Features: The myxoid stroma is rich in proteoglycans, elastin, collagen, fibrinogen and fibrin. There are areas of recent and old hemorrhage. Besides tumor cells, the stroma contains dendritic cells, hemosiderin-laden macrophages, and scattered inflammatory cells (lymphocytes, plasma cells, eosinophils and basophils). Typical myxoma appearance may be obscured by secondary changes, including hemorrhage, thrombosis, infarction, cystic degeneration, fibrosis and calcification.
