Solid Pseudopapillary Tumor : Hyaline Globules

Microscopic Features of Solid Pseudopapillary Tumor (SPT) of Pancreas: PAS-positive intra- and extracytoplasmic eosinophilic hyaline globules may be seen in some cases. The globules are composed of zymogen-like α1-antitrypsin granules.

Note the oncocytic appearance of the cytoplasm. Histologic variants of SPT that have been described include clear cell, oncocytic, and pleomorphic variant (significant nuclear pleomorphism in >20% of cells). The pleomorphic variant has abundant mitoses and is extremely aggressive.
