Comments:
It is also referred to as hypertrophic or hyperplastic gastropathy. There is diffuse hyperplasia of the foveolar epithelium of the body and fundus with sparing of the antrum. It results in irregular enlargement of the rugal folds as seen in this low power image. The patient suffers from hypochlorhydria or achlorhydria and hypoproteinemia due to protein-losing enteropathy. The cause is excessive secretion of transforming growth factor alpha.
