Pulmonary MALT Lymphoma - Morphology: Pulmonary MALT lymphomas usually form poorly-circumscribed solid mass lesions. Colonization of residual benign germinal centers by the neoplastic cells can create a follicular or nodular appearance (as seen here) and mimic follicular lymphoma.

The center of the lesions shows diffuse sheets of neoplastic cells with complete effacement of the native pulmonary architecture. At the periphery, the neoplastic cells track along the alveolar walls in a lymphangitic pattern, cause thickening of the alveolar septa. Discontinuous involvement may create a beaded appearance of the alveolar walls (see next image).
