Thyroid MALT Lymphoma
Comments:
Plasmacytic differentiation (as seen here) is common in thyroid MALT lymphomas and may be quite extensive. Such cases have been diagnosed in the past as extramedullary plasmacytomas. The follicular cells show prominent oxyphilic (Hurthle cell) change. Immunophenotypic features of thyroid MALT lymphomas are identical to those seen in other sites. A small proportion of cases show t(3;14)(p14.1;q32) resulting in upregulation of FOXP1 gene. Most cases are stage I or II at presentation and have excellent prognosis.
