Comments:
Introduction: Primary lymphomas of the urinary tract are quite rare. They comprise < 5% of all extranodal lymphomas and < 1% of primary neoplasms of the urinary tract. Secondary involvement of bladder is more common and is seen in 10-20% of advanced stage non-Hodgkin lymphomas (usually diffuse large B-cell lymphomas).

Extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT lymphoma) is the most common primary lymphoma of the urinary bladder. Other subtypes include diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, anaplastic large cell lymphoma, Burkitt lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, and T-cell lymphoma (some associated with Schistosomiasis).

This image of primary MALT lymphoma of the bladder shows diffuse sheet of centrocyte-like cells with slightly irregular nuclei, inconspicuous nucleoli, and pale cytoplasm. A few large transformed cells are also seen.
