Aggregates of foamy macrophages are sometimes seen in mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma of the kidney. Some consider this tumor to be a peculiar variant of papillary renal cell carcinoma - their immunohistochemical profile is similar (CK7+ve, AMACR+ve, usually CD10-ve); however, their cytogenetic profile is different.
