Clear or Oxyphilic Cell Tumors vs Steroid Cell Tumor, not otherwise specified (SCT, NOS): Various oxyphilic tumors, either primary or metastatic, may occur in the ovary, including clear cell carcinoma, oxyphilic variant of endometrioid adenocarcinoma, various types of hepatoid tumors, metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma, and metastatic melanoma. Most of these have more malignant appearance than SCT, NOS and show greater cytologic atypia and/or numerous mitoses. They tend to be strongly positive for keratin and EMA and negative for steroid cell markers.

In addition, tumors such as struma ovarii, strumal carcinoid, and epithelial ovarian tumors may show non-neoplastic steroid cells at the periphery.
