Fibrothecoma

Fibrothecomas: Ovarian fibromas and thecomas are closely related tumors that arise from the specialized ovarian stroma. They have overlapping histologic features but can be distinguished from each other in most cases.

Some tumors, however, have both fibromatous areas resembling fibroma as well as a thecomatous component resembling thecoma. Such tumors have been referred to as fibrothecomas.

Some authors recommend applying the term fibrothecoma to all tumors in this category. The distinction between fibromas and thecomas is largely an academic exercise since both are benign and treated similarly.
