Comments:
Somatic Neoplasms in Mature Cystic Teratoma of the Ovary: This image shows a mature cystic teratoma of the ovary. It is partly solid and partly cystic. A tuft of hair is seen on the left edge. There are multiple cystic structures that were filled with mucin and lined by well-differentiated mucinous epithelium.

The most common somatic-type malignancy arising in a mature cystic teratoma of the ovary is squamous cell carcinoma. Less common malignant tumors include malignant melanoma, Paget disease, various sarcomas, carcinosarcoma, glioblastoma, central neurocytoma, neuroblastoma, PNET, and mucinous borderline tumor/mucinous adenocarcinoma (seen in this case).
