Ovary : Small Cell Carcinoma, Pulmonary type
Comments:
This is an example of pulmonary-type small cell carcinoma of the ovary which resembles its lung counterpart in all aspects. It may arise as a pure tumor or mixed with one of the surface epithelial adenocarcinomas. Immunoreactivity for keratin, NSE, CD57, and chromogranin may be present. In contrast to small cell carcinoma of hypercalcemic type, this tumor occurs in older patients. The prognosis is poor. Large cell neuroendocrine carcinomas have also been described in the ovaries.
