Giant Cell Arteritis : Elastic Stain

Inflammation in giant cell arteritis targets elastic laminae. This image shows elastic stain on a temporal artery biopsy. There is fragmentation, partial duplication, and loss of elastic lamina. There is also considerable intimal hyperplasia with luminal narrowing.
