Comments:
Pathogenesis: The pathogenesis of lipomatous hypertrophy of atrial septum (LHAS) is uncertain but it may be caused by expansion of entrapped fat cells within atrial septum. The stimulus for this expansion is thought to be metabolic disturbances associated with obesity and advancing age. The image shows trichrome stain highlighting entrapped cardiac myocytes within LHAS.
