Comments:
Congenital/Infantile fibrosarcomas in patients under 2 yrs. of age show non-random gain of chromosomes 8, 11, 17, and 20 and a chromosomal translocation : t(12;15)(p13;q25) which results in fusion of ETV6 gene on chromosome 12 with NTRK3 gene on chromosome 15. This is best detected by RT-PCR or FISH techniques on frozen or paraffin-embedded tissue. This translocation is also seen in cellular mesoblastic nephromas suggesting that the two entities are related.
