Chondroid Lipoma : Differential

Comments:
Chondroid lipoma may be mistaken for extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma or myxoid liposarcoma. Other entities in the differential diagnosis include soft tissue chondroma, and myoepithelial tumors. Myxoid liposarcomas are composed of slightly atypical spindle cells and have a delicate plexiform vascular pattern. The cells of extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma are round to oval with eosinophilic cytoplasm and no intracytoplasmic vacuoles. Soft tissue chondroma occurs more often in hands and feet and contains true hyaline cartilage and multinucleated giant cells.
