Comments:
Nodular fasciitis of longer duration shows dense hyaline fibrosis and formation of microcysts. In cystic nodular fasciitis, smaller cysts coalesce to form a large central cyst.

Case History: This specimen is from a 25 y/o male who presented with a lesion around his elbow joint. On fine needle aspiration, the findings were suggestive of a sarcoma. The resection specimen shows a 3.5 cm well-circumscribed, round nodule with a fleshy, hemorrhagic, and partially cystic surface. Microscopic findings were diagnostic of nodular fasciitis.
