Chronic hepatitis B infection often results in cirrhosis with nodules of damaged and regenerating hepatocytes separated by fibrous bands containing prominent chronic inflammatory cell infiltrates and a ductular reaction. Nodules < 3 mm are designated “micronodular cirrhosis” while those > 3 mm are “macronodular.”
