Introduction: Lipoblastoma is a benign tumor of embryonal white fat that is seen almost exclusively in infants and young children. The tumor may be superficial and circumscribed (lipoblastoma) or deep-seated, ill-defined and infiltrative (lipoblastomatosis). The distinction between the two subtypes is not clinically relevant since their biological behavior is the same.

Microscopically, it recapitulates the appearance of fetal adipose tissue. This image shows variably-sized irregular lobules of immature fat separated by connective tissue septa and myxoid stroma.
